The Filipino Inventors Society (FIS) marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 82nd Founding Anniversary on October 13, 2025. The grand event, held at the VS Hotel along EDSA, gathered the nation's brightest minds in science and technology to honor the enduring spirit of Filipino innovation.
A Legacy of Invention and Resilience
The anniversary celebration was a tribute to the FIS's decades-long mission: to generate, develop, produce, and market Filipino inventiveness. The Society, which has been a powerful advocate for local inventors since its founding, reinforced its commitment to supporting innovators as mandated by the "Inventors and Invention Incentives Act of the Philippines" (Republic Act 7459).
In his address, FIS President Inv. Ronald P. Pagsanjan emphasized the importance of a thriving innovation ecosystem, highlighting the role of inventors in national resilience and sustainability—a theme also echoed in the upcoming National Inventors Week (NIW) for 2025. The event underscored the necessity of strong partnerships between inventors, the government (particularly the Department of Science and Technology or DOST), and the private sector to propel homegrown technologies into the global market.
Spotlight on Award-Winning Filipino Talent
A major highlight of the evening was the recognition of inventors whose groundbreaking works have recently brought pride to the Philippines. These awards celebrated local ingenuity that is solving national problems and gaining international acclaim.
The Society’s continued recognition of these inventors, alongside the traditional categories like the Gawad Teo Purugganan (Outstanding Invention) and Gawad Gregorio Y. Zara (Student Creative Research), ensures that Filipino inventors, whether seasoned professionals or budding student researchers, receive the support and recognition they deserve.
Looking Ahead: Fueling the Next 82 Years
The anniversary served not just as a retrospective but as a rallying cry for the future. With the recent signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between FIS and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), the focus is now sharper on protecting the intellectual property (IP) of local inventors and accelerating the commercialization of their technologies.
The FIS remains steadfast in its commitment to transforming inventive ideas into commercially viable products, thus contributing meaningfully to the nation's economic growth. As the Society enters its 83rd year, it continues to inspire the next generation to embrace creativity and innovation, ensuring that Filipino ingenuity will remain a powerful force for national development.
